Bremen Christmas markets
After a very pleasant breakfast we wandered around the nearby city square, cluttered with grand old buildings, and obscured by lots of Christmas stalls. I did the best I could to photograph the buildings, in some cases I had to get up close and use the wide-angle lens.
Then we went inside the beautiful St. Peter’s Cathedral.
It was guarded by a gryffon.
Then we walked back, and had lunch. Over lunch we were discussing how to pronounce the German word for “tram” as we were asking at reception about the trams, and the receptionist kept referring to trains. The German word is “Straßenbahn”. While we were doing this a woman sitting next to us asked if she could help us with our plans. She suggested going to the Schnoor district, an older part of the city with small houses and narrow streets.
We took her up on that, and found some lovely buildings and narrow streets.
That’s it for today! Tomorrow we take the train to Cologne.

So German – street train = tram LOL. Bremen looks really lovely – fab photos. I know nothing about the place but it should be on the travel agenda I think. Great street scapes and a whopping gothic church. What’s not to love?? Was the Xmas market tacky or tasteful?
There were a lot of food vendors, plus other stuff. The vendor stalls obscured the lovely buildings but I suppose the authorities thought “hey, here’s a lot of empty space, let’s put something there”.
It’s a bit like amateurish newsletters where the editor can’t bear to leave any white space in them, thinking that empty space is “wasted”.
